How to get started with easy and fun family walking
It’s fun, it’s free, and it’s fab!
Yes, family walking is a great way to get all the gang together and re-connect.
Here at Peakeze HQ, we’re a small family. It’s just me (I’m Rob), my wife Liz, and our two children aged six and eight. Getting outside into the fresh air has always been important for us.
Here, I’m very pleased to share a few tips, to help you get started with family walking.
Keep it simple
Fun is important, so the last thing we want to do is make family walking complicated. To begin with therefore, just keep it simple, local and brief.
There is nothing wrong with a half-hour walk to explore your local area or perhaps there’s a park, easy footpath or riverside/ canal path close by.
Simple, local walks can often be pushchair friendly too.
Don’t worry about expensive kit
Sure, some people like to get serious and invest in top-range equipment and head off for 20-mile hikes, but for local and easy walking, everyone’s ‘kit’ can simply be a pair of good-fit trainers and a light waterproof jacket.
Add in a picnic
You can keep it simple here too.
How about some tasty bread and cheese, some fresh fruit and perhaps a little something sweet? Add juice for the kids and a Thermos of hot brown for the grown-ups, and you’re good to go.
Small rucksacks enable everyone to carry their own supplies.
Most of all – do remember to enjoy it
I hope this helps to get you started, and that you enjoy your family walking and the many benefits it brings.
