What Equipment Do I Need For A Hike?

Before venturing out into the wilderness on a hike, you need to make sure you have the proper equipment. This listicle will go over some of the essential items you will need to have an enjoyable and safe hike.

Hiking Shoes

One of the most important pieces of equipment for a hike is shoes. You want to make sure you have comfortable shoes, provide good ankle support, and have a good grip. Depending on the terrain and climate, you will want to adjust your shoe choice accordingly. For example, if you're hiking in snow, you'll want a shoe with waterproofing and good traction.

Backpack

Your backpack should be big enough to fit all of your supplies, but not too big or bulky that it's cumbersome to carry. Make sure to try on different backpacks to determine which size and style work best for you. If you're planning on doing a lot of hiking, you may want to invest in a backpacking-specific backpack which will be more comfortable for long-distance hikes.

Clothing

What clothing you pack will largely depend on the weather conditions of your hike. However, some general items are always a good idea to bring. A hat or bandana can help protect you from the sun, while layers can help regulate your body temperature. Always bring an extra set of clothes in case you get wet or cold.

Food and Water

Bring enough food and water to last you the entire duration of your hike. No hike is complete without snacks! Pack some energy bars or trail mix to keep your energy up during the hike. You can purchase our roll up food grade silicon drinks bottles from our collections. There's a vast choice of colours including: Red, Blue, Black, Pink, Orange and Green.

A Trail Map

Before you set out on your hike, be sure to study the trail map so you know where you're going. This will help you avoid getting lost and will also give you an idea of how long the hike will take.

Hiking Sticks

A hiking stick can add some real support during your hike. With three or four points of contact on the ground, you will have a greater balance. Stability is also increased. Hiking sticks are great for uneven terrains, especially if you use telescoping hiking sticks which are handy for extending the size of the sticks to suit your height or surroundings.

Time to hit the trails

Now that we went over some essential equipment for a hike, it's time to lace up your shoes and hit the trails! Just remember to always plan ahead, pack plenty of food and water, and dress for the conditions. With proper preparation, hikes can be enjoyable for everyone involved!
